DIY Bathroom Projects; Corner Shower Installation
A corner shower can dramatically change the appearance of your bathroom. And, installation is not as difficult as one may think. The two most important things to remember about this project are to research as much as possible, and once you've started, measure everything. This article is assuming that the framing for the shower has already been done and the old bathtub or shower has been removed and will give step by step instructions on the DIY bathroom project of installing a corner shower from a kit.
Step-by-step instructions for DIY bathroom corner shower installation
The first thing you need to do when preparing to begin this DIY bathroom project is to inspect the contents of the kit itself, making sure no parts are missing or damaged. The kit should contain a triangular base, two wall panels, and glass panels and a door. After you've done this, you first need to connect the floor drain of the shower to the main drain lines of the house. This is done by placing a neoprene gasket around the drain pipe under the floor, then fitting pipe together from the top and bottom.
Once you have connected the drain, it's time to install the base. A good way to provide a stable footing for the shower base is to put about 1"of drywall mudding compound on the floor, wait a few minutes, then firmly place the base into the compound, being sure to line up the drain hole with the floor drain. After the base is in place, the back panels are next. The first panel you need to install is the one that includes the corner of the shower. This wall could make or break your whole shower, so take your time. Once you've gotten your wall panel in place, use roofing nails to attach the panel directly to the wall studs-most shower kits have pre-drilled holes. For the next panel, you should first measure and pre-drill holes for the handles and shower-head.
The final step is to install the glass panels and doors. This is a fairly simple step, but differs from manufacturer to manufacturer, so you should always follow the instructions that were included. Most glass panels are installed with metal channels attached to the wall panels, the tightened with screws.
