Making up the Northern border of the Lehigh Valley, Carbon County is part of Pennsylvania's Coal Region as well as the Pocono Mountains region. Named a county in 1843, Carbon was namded for the large deposites of coal throughout the region. Major Boroughs include Beaver Meadows, Bowmanstown, East Side, Lansford, Lehighton, Nesquehoning, Palmerton, Parryville, Summit Hill, Weatherly, Weissport and the county seat Jim Thorpe.
