Kitchen Cabinet Ideas for Re-facing
If you've been a homeowner for any amount of time, chances are, you've had to replace your cabinets. If you haven't got too that point yet, don't worry, you will sooner or later. Replacing an entire kitchen's worth of cabinets can be very expensive, even if you do-it-yourself. An idea for refurbishing your cabinets is called re-facing. This is a much more cost effective way to update the look of your kitchen without all the time and money it takes to install new cabinets.
Inexpensive ideas in kitchen cabinet re-facing
There are a couple of inexpensive options if you've decided to re-face your kitchen cabinets instead of replace them. The easiest option is to remove the cabinet hardware, cover the cabinets in a stick-on wood veneer, and replace the hardware with new, more updated pieces. New cabinets for under $100!
Another idea would be to sand off the old finish on the cabinets and either re-stain or paint them. A little more time consuming then the first idea, but just as inexpensive!
The third idea in cabinet re-facing is to remove the old cabinet doors, and replace them with new ones. This option saves you from the tear out process, yet still updates the look and adds value to your kitchen.
Higher priced ideas in kitchen cabinet re-facing
As in every industry, if there is something that needs fixed or replaced or installed, you can find someone that does that for a living. If you've decided to re-face your kitchen cabinets rather than replacing them, there are people out there who do this job and only this job for a living. Should you call many of the cabinet re-facing companies in the phone book or online? Is this even a job that I need to hire someone for? Be careful when choosing someone to do this for you, make sure to check every reference, and if he/she is a licensed contractor, any complaints they received through the Better Business Bureau.
