Inexpensive Solutions for Cleaning Kitchen Cabinets Made of Wood
Sometimes, kitchen cabinets get such a build-up of grease and grime that a good deep cleaning is the only way to bring back their original beauty. How to deep clean kitchen cabinets is really something that's handy to know, especially if you have a rental property or are buying one of the many foreclosed properties available right now. Sometimes a total refinishing or replacing can be avoided by a good deep cleaning. Here are a couple of very inexpensive ways to give your cabinets a good deep cleaning.
Deep cleaning with bleach for wood kitchen cabinets
There are commercial products available that will help to deep clean kitchen cabinets. However, besides being expensive, many of these cleaners contain harsh chemicals and can sometimes even be caustic. Unless the cabinets are really bad, these cleaners aren't really necessary. Bleach, diluted in water 1 part to 10, is often enough to handle the grime. It is also a disinfectant, so it takes care of any germs on the surface of the cabinets. The only disadvantage to using bleach is that if you leave it on too long it could lighten the wood. But if you wipe it on and wait only about 3 to 5 minutes before wiping it off, you should be able to avoid this. There is commercial wood bleach as well, but this works comparably and at a much lower cost.
Another deep cleaning solution for kitchen cabinets
Another good, and inexpensive, deep cleaner is a mix of boiling water, turpentine and linseed oil. Wait until it is warm, not cold, and wipe down the cabinets. Allow the cleaner to remain on for a few minutes, depending on the grime, and then rinse the solution with a sponge and clean water. The only problem with using this solution is that you have to mix a new batch every time it gets cold, which could get to be pretty time consuming.
