When choosing the highest quality kitchen cabinets, the first place to look for advice is the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturer's Association (KCMA). They are available online and are a great resource when beginning your search. There are many standards that cabinets must meet and rigorous testing that they must undergo in order to earn KCMA certification. Those standards include things like making sure that there is at least three inches between the bottom of the door and the floor. There are about twelve or thirteen standards that a manufacturer has to meet to have their product certified. KCMA certification also meets Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines.
Signs of a high quality kitchen cabinet
Here are some things to look for in a high quality kitchen cabinet. These are several of the standards a manufacturer must meet to earn KCMA certification. Cabinets designed to sit on the floor should have a toe space that goes back at least 2" and has a height of 3". The doors should be aligned and open and close easily, without sticking or not staying closed. All the materials used must meet performance standards for that particular material. Other standards include; that there are no saw marks, that every piece of the cabinet be sanded, stained and finished correctly with uniformity in color and no obvious drip marks.
If you follow the guidelines laid out by the KCMA or other cabinet quality groups, you will be able to make a wise investment that will last for a long time.
